Default 1ST SA Infantry Brigade?

Hi all

Way out of my normal collecting sphere here.
I believe this to be the badge of the 1ST SA Infantry Brigade, 1909-19.
Is this correct? Also it seems very large for a cap badge?
Did all four regiments wear the same badge?

Thanks

Colin

Yes, you are correct, but, certainly not worn in 1909, the "Union" did not even exist until the following year, yes, a rather large badge, yes, the four regiments wore it.

Thanks Frank!

Does anyone know when this badge was first issued?
I think it was replaced by one with a different motto?
Cheers

Colin

That's my understanding too. The brigade was formed in 1915 (around August, I think), as part of the SA Overseas Expeditionary Forces.
