Hi all,
I don't often collect headdress but with this being to the King Edward's Horse I took the plunge. I was an underbidder at auction but the winning bidder recently made contact through my kingscolonials website and thanks to their kindness here we are. The Service Dress forage cap of the King Edward's Horse. Khaki with scarlet band and piping with brown leather peak and chinstrap, lining marked "V.V. Pedlar King Edwards Horse". The cap is maker marked for Hobson & Son as per the tunics and buttons for the King's Colonials and King Edward's Horse. This example is fitted with a King Edward's Horse Officer's Service Dress cap badge in bronze attached with east-west loops. V. V. Pedlar was Vyvian Vercoe Pedlar and his details are on my website. The cap dates to 1913/14. A detail I was unaware of is that the chinstrap buttons are small General Service buttons and not King Edward's Horse buttons. Cheers Dean

A rare cap in fine condition! The likes of these are just not seen over on this side of the pond.
As for the chinstrap buttons, GS buttons were more commonly used on OSD caps than regimental buttons for all regiments. Some, or most, regiments likely never had these small bronze buttons. Usually only silver/gilt for the blue caps or FSC, which were often slightly larger anyway. CB

along with the "or's" buttons it appears to have an or's chinstrap. No denying the regiment on this regardless of buttons and straps.

Thanks Jerry.
Certainly brings the regiment headdress to life more so than pouring through photographs not that they are abundant for the KEH, cheers Dean
