Hi Paolo
welcome to the Forum.
Most badge's were the same for both WW1 & WW2,but some changed slightley. The best place to start is a book Military Badge Collecting by John Gaylor. Its one of the best books on the subject and not that expensive.
£20 from the publisher Pen & Sword Books.
All the best Neil

Hi Paolo,

Just a quick pointer for you, if you open the link below it will take you to my Royal Engineers Album.

Here you will find badges of all periods from victorian to the present day.

If you look at the cypher in the centre of these badges you will see which monarch was on the throne when each badge was worn.

The ones with GvR are WW1 and the ones with Gv1R are from WW2

Also if you look at the battle honours listed on a badge, should there be honours for WW1 battles, this would indicate that the badge is probably WW2 or after.

If you look in my rifle brigade album you will see examples of this.

As Neil states, many badges remained unchanged but I hope this helps you in trying to date many of the others.

Welcome to the forum.
Regards
Ry

Paolo

You can get a lot from this forum

for regular (permanent) infantry regiments you can start by looking at an album such as the one below,

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...hp?albumid=639

Once you have picked a regiment of interest search on this forum and the albums of individual regiments where any change of design and/or of material of construction will probably be described.

Search the albums for individual regiments (one of mine is shown here; The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers ) which may help you further identify a badge as from the WW1 period

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...hp?albumid=293

Questions to the forum will also usually get a fast and good response.

John

Ok....many thanks af all.
I have buy the book of Doyle and Foster.....very interesting.
This forum is very interesting and complete.....i have a scolastic english and
I find it hard to understand everything.
I apologize you if i write not correctly english.
I promise you that I will study better the English.
The problem is that in Italy nothing is not found respect the caps badges.
Not book or any information and the only possibilities of study and search are internet and the books published in England.
Also for buy I must address to ebay not having however the possibility to view the piece and having to entrust me of the seller and of a photo.

Grazie a tutti.
Paolo
