Default Lovat Scouts + Staff's Collar, Boot sale

Hi gents I picked these up today for a pound each at the boot sale.

I would welcome opinions on the Lovat badge.

I am assuming that the other badge is a Staffordshire collar, any confirmation of which unit / period would be welcome please.

Please excuse the lighting in the pics, they are both White Metal.

Regards
Ry

Hi Ry
Not sure about the Lovat's because it looks brass, so the colour makes it look duff, but it could be ok.
If the Staffs is WM, it could be a circa 1900 Imperial Yeomanry cap badge rather than a collar. Better photos would help though.
Cheers,
Alex

Hi,
Alec's reply has me wondering how to tell the difference between a 1900 Staffs. Imperial Yeomanry cap badge and a white metal Vol. Bn. collar of the South Staffordshire Regiment.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Tinto

Hello again gents,

Thanks for the replies.

These photos may be a bit better. I have noticed that the lugs on the Staff's collar (?) are WM aswell.

Regards
Ry

Hi Ry,
Yes, better pictures there. I'll leave others to comment on the Lovat Scouts but interesting that your Staffs collar? has white metal lugs. Here is mine with copper lugs for comparison.
Cheers, Tinto

Thanks tinto,

I look forward to seeing any other opinions on both and would be very interested in confirming the period of the Staff's collar/ badge.

"EDIT" (sorry gents wasn't paying enough attention, you have already given me the period be it either a IY cap badge or VB collar)

Ry

Hi Charlie,

We have already had some discussions on forum regarding the Lovat's Scouts badge and the fact of the matter is we still do not know.

In my opinion your badge is well struck, shows crisp detail (front and reverse) and does not have sloppy braising to the reverse (a good thing). It also appears as though someone at some time has given it a little polish. This badge is about as good a' gap filler as your going to get. I wouldn't throw it away, just wait until someone on forum photographs an example with some provenance or an old soldier finds this forum.

Respected forum member Peter Taylor does currently have a Lovat's Scouts badge in stock and you can view that here:

Many thanks J-J,

I've been having a look and whereas Peter's badge is a KK1500 mine appears to be the second pattern KK2336 due to the tall lettering.

I did have a look at Wilf's (Orasot) scottish badges yesterday and also today at the examples on EBay and there were differences on mine with the eye and the antlers.

I'll keep an open mind for now and for a pound good value for money either way.

(please note my edit on the earlier post ref the Staff's)

Regards
RY
