I'm pretty sure that I have seen these items at miltaria fairs. Usually lurking in the spares boxes that most dealers have with damged, suspest or broken badges etc. Will definitely keep an eye out at Bangor next month.

just had a dig through the spares box, and it looks like the clip has long gone. Sorry about that - but will look out for another.

If you find any I'd be most interested!

Default badge clips

I was away last week so missed this.
They were introduced under Army Council Instruction of 20th March 1940, and given the Stock Number CB 0460 in the VCN and priced at 1/2d each !

Like all bits and pieces of militaria there were slightly different designs which I assume come from different manufacturers. There are two types of these clips that I know of. (I'm grateful to Mike C for the picture)
I have the upper (double oval type) but I’m still very much looking for the lower (rectangular) type !!!

Mike C here, and thanks for the credit.

These clips were first introduced for use with the Field Service cap and not Berets. If a luged badge was issued it was not needed, however instructions were that if only badges with sliders were available then a 'clip securing' was to be issued with it, not only to tighten up the fixing, but to stop it rocking back & forth as well.

Dear All

I know there are better things to do on a Saturday afternoon but I have just been looking through JSP 768 and found the pictures below along with their respective descriptions. Looks like these clips are still current issue (although probably not that anyone has had one issued for years) and go for the exorbitant sum of 6 pence and 3 pence. Apologies for the quality of the pictures but it's the best I could get them cutting them out of a PDF file.

Clip 1 description - Clip, Cap Badge, NSN 8455-99-973-9602, Price 6 Pence

Clip 2 description - Clip, Securing, Cap Badge, NSN 8455-99-132-4143, Price 3pence
Clip, Securing, Cap Badge, Brass 24mm Long, 13mm Wide approx
For retaining badge with single hook shank in a beret

Clip 1 description - Clip, Cap Badge, NSN 8455-99-973-9602

Was/is still used for fixing a badge into a Coloured Side Cap when worn, and it does indeed make for a tight fit to stop badge rocking.

I wonder if they get issued with Bonnets or Tams when worn by attached personnel with badges with sliders perhaps?

But I have never seen Clip 2 in use.

If anyone knows where I could find one of these little devils, I'd be grateful!
