Default 13th Wandsworth Battalion

Hi All,

Did anybody else consider this one on ebay?

There seems to be a maker mark just about visible at the underside of the slider (right side).

Ouch. £67 is a lot of money for a fake.

Avoid fleur-de-lis!

The Borough of Wandsworth coat of arms and genuine badges have crosses in the outer part of the shield. Not fleur-de-lis.

The reverse detail on the scroll is also a tell as are the other points mentioned here:

https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...3&postcount=72

The jaunty angle of the pics doesn’t help but enough is visible to be certain it’s fake.

I think this particular seller is one to avoid after a glance at some of his other items!

Might just be my PC, but in lookin at his other items what struck me the most is that the patina on nearly all of them looks the same, which makes me think manufactured rather than achieved by age.

Thanks all, I will be sure to avoid him, and it closed at 67 GBP!!!

I once had exactly this particular fake. At least one down now.

I don’t think there’s a makers mark at all on the badge in post #1 rather it’s just the pattern of unevenness of reverse’s surface and light/shadows.

I couldn't see a man's mark at all in the first image but thought there might be some marking there if someone else can see one.

Although they're of thin metal, my two fakes have rough looking backs.

The real ones are much smoother on the back and also have almost no reverse impression on the scroll.

I wonder if the buyer read this thread.
Sold for £13.04 this time round to the underbidder from the original listing.

I bet the winner is delighted getting a second chance and winning it over £50 less than their previous maximum... that is until they read this thread and discover it’s fake and scrap value.
