Default Infy Bns converted to RTR

I just put up three different 1926 Pattern WM 7th Bn King's in my KLR TF/A album.

I also have some chromium plated versions too

On conversion why would they bother plating them if they were all WM ???

(I have chromed BM KLR badges too - but I was told that they were for coronations and other special events

I'd be very grateful to know which is which ??

At the end of the war there was a fad for privately bought side caps for walking out to replace the rather unsightly issued GS caps. It is recorded that these were often provided with chromed badges so it's possible your King's badges are not for wear by the tank battalions at all.

Either that or the soldiers had them plated to save on the polishing.

The RAC converted battalions often wore the RAC badge, the old infantry design, a chromed infantry design or as contemporary photos show a combination of them at the same time! There are no hard and fast rules on whether the RAC badge and individual regiments did different things and the badges worn changed during the war.
