"WANTED" VICTORIAN SILVER RIFLE VOLUNTEER BUTTONS
Silver Victorian Officer's Rifle Volunteers.
Hello Guys, I am looking to acquire either one or two of these buttons. They are silver, and measure approx. 16mm diameter. As you can see from the photos, one of the epaulets is missing a button. I may have to do with a regular button or two The original button has a screw thread fastener on the reverse - as see in photos. Freddy |

Are you sure its Rifles Volunteers, I thought the buttons with the wreath were Kings Royal Rifle Corps?

The generic buttons of RVC did not have a wreath.
See "Rifle Volunteer Buttons 1859-1908" by Ripley & Darmanin, No. 337. regards

Freddy,
The Shoulder Cords are from a Volunteer Bn Officers tunic. They came after the RVC. They would carry Regimental Buttons in silver/plate of the Regiment to which they belonged. regards

These items have been discussed before - http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=62133 but there was no real consensus as to what the buttons represented.

Button Studs still wanted
Thanks Guys for the information. Much appreciated.
I would still like a stud/button for the one missing. I have been in touch with Firmin. If they do not have the dies, they would cost approx £400 to set up, plus a minimum order of 250 pieces ! Freddy |

Freddy,
The buttons you seek do NOT belong with the shoulder boards in any case. The 3 pips for the rank of Captain were not introduced until after the death of Queen Victoria in 1902. Before that it was just 2. Any buttons would therefore be Kings Crown. regards

Freddy,
Buttons are interchangable and its only got one on, the first that came to hand. If you are selling them, which as a dealer in medals, I suspect you will, then I wouldnt bother putting any on. A collector will put his own on from the regiment he collects to. regards
