Default 105, RW & unknown buttons

Hi all,

I think these are:

Mess Waiters 105th Foot Madras Light Infantry large - Firmin

6th Foot Royal Warwickshire medium right and left facing medium gilt - Jennens

Unknown large armorial pattern - thought it was DoW but probably a livery button - Superior Quality backmark

Unknown large gilt QVC with script RAE ?

I particularly like the left and right facing 6th Foot buttons and wasn't aware that buttons came like this.

Input welcomed, cheers Dean.

The second button is a livery button.

Hi Dean,

Another nice mess waiters button. Thanks for showing it.

The last button actually reads "RAR" [Last "R" is reversed] and is an Officer's Undress or Mufti button to the Royal Artillery (circa 1830's-1860's).
I have seen them in the following sizes, though I am sure there are plenty more variations out there :
22mm /C. JENNENS (PoW feathers) LONDON
21mm / FIRMIN & SONS , 153 STRAND LONDON
15mm / G & W . BOGGETT LONDON

With regards to your Facing pair of 6th Regt of Foot.
There were a few Regiment of Foot, whose buttons featured Animals where they had different buttons with left and right facing animals for different sides of the coatee/Tunic jacket, so the animals faced one another. From memory, I think the 8th Regt of Foot had facing buttons - with the Horse facing both left and Right.

The other one I know about is the 4th Regt of Foot. (see pics below). I have just shown the more unusual facing Right button. I am sure there were others but can't think of them at the moment.

Cheers

Ian

Dean, thanks again, a 103rd Button, an ancestor served in the Royal Bombay Fusiliers and was serving when they became Royal Dublin Fusiliers, luckily for the family he had his service placed on his headstone when he died in Australia! Best Regards - Mark
