Default Chaplains cap badge

I’d be interested to hear others opinions on the RAF KC Officers Cap Badge on eBay

I can't see any obvious reason to dismiss it

Default Not sure

Can't say that I have seen many with the collar badge (with pin fitting) used in the cap badge. I would be more happy with the metal prongs that go through the backing and are then bent over. I have seen a number of 'old' KC RAF Chaplain backings for sale on eBay that have been weathered to give the appearance of an old item - I am not saying that this is the case in this example shown!

Default Chaplains badge

I think it quite likely that someone used a crown and added the material to accommodate the metal badge. The stuffing appears white which is unlikely and the backing is the same as the front which again is wrong. Check if there is a join just below the crown and the rest of the badge.

I think it's made up, the badge should not be pin back as this was for wear on the chaplains stole.
I don't like the rear backing particularly either.
It wouldn't be one for me.

I’m of the view that the eBay one I highlighted is homemade, quite different in its construction to others I’ve seen, the use of a pin back collar badge is a big red flag and the backing looks like it was cut out with a pair of scissors.

Compare it to this example

and then consider that you can buy part reproduction badges from the likes of

I'm a RN collector, however, if the RAF follow the RN then the crown, with a centre red jewel, is pre 1922. In the RN the centre jewel was standardised to blue after 1922.

Great reminder Royston, I’m not sure if the RAF change over was rigidly enforced.
