My bad! I should have read the rest of the thread before shooting off my mouth (or fingers). I did not mean to imply you are a slow learner, Greg.

Please follow the link to see a recently sold PPCLI embroidered cap badge.
Make sure that you are sitting down when you see what it sold for.

I was following this one with interest, and see that it was mostly Canadian input.
Just to satisfy my curiosity, would embroidered bullion badges not be the norm in the Canadian forces on Officer's beret's as they are for most regiments in the UK?
Just interested and learning more from this site all the time.

Presently in the Canadian Forces, embroidered badges are the norm for officers. There are varying degrees of quality depending on the manufacturer.
In most of the "Branches" (similar to corps, but worn by army, navy and air force) the non commissioned ranks wear cloth cap badges.
Metal badges are worn by the non-commissioned ranks in infantry and armoured regiments, however, the non-commissioned ranks of the Royal 22nd Regiment and 12e Regiment Blinde wear embroidered cap badges.
Prior to unification in 1968, embroidered badges were unusual for army officers, but were worn on the old coloured field service caps which are covered in this thread and on the Service Publications website.
Hope this helps.

Phil

Phil,
Thank you very much for that. I'm enjoying learning more about the Canadian forces.

Regards

Hi Bill,

They were for wear on the field service cap. I've got an officers bullion example and the OR in thread both on the caps. I'll take some pics and add them later.

Time for a few more of these. Every badge is from a CFSC and can be seen on my website.

Nice examples of the bullion wire badges. These are scarce badges, and as officers' badges were private purchase.
Clive has an excellent CFSC reference.
