Default RAAC hats

Hi, picked up this hat recently. A couple of questions, is it right or is it made up? and what would be the time frame for this hat? Thanks in advance Mike

My guess is made up.

The RAAC didn't start wearing slouch hats (with emu plumes) until around 1993 (prior to that it was just Black Berets on all occasions). They had their regimental or corps badge on the front with the Rising Sun badge on the side.

That looks like a 1953-60 period badge that was just placed on a slouch hat.

When I was serving in the RAAC (88-92) you wouldn't even consider wearing a slouch hat!!

Mick is of course absolutely right in all he says, and I am reminded of a time back in the 1950's when the RSM of 10LH was heard to say to an errant Trooper: "If you are not proud of the black beret we will arrange a transfer for you, so you can wear a slouch hat".

Regards,

John

There is much pride in wearing the Black Beret as a member of the RAAC.
