In the photo Major-General Brind is wearing seven medal ribbons. Those in the top row are Companion of the Order of the Bath, Companion of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Distinguished Service Order. Those in the bottom row are the Queen's South Africa Medal and the Great War trio. If the portrait is of him then clearly the artist has mistakenly put the Africa GSM where the QSAM should be.

Looking at the portrait again I notice there is a MiD oak leaf on the ribbon of the Victory Medal but there doesn't appear to be one in the photo. Also, in the photo the nose and ears look different and he has a cleft chin which the gent in the portrait doesn't have. All in all I have to say I think the portrait is a different gentleman. Not so much Major-General Brind, more like Lee Van Cleef.

So you don't think the guy in the portrait is as important as the ones in the photo. I'm struggling to identify the guy in the portrait?
