Default Rhodesia Reg, (one for Zob?)

Would anyone know what the pin back badge is, just a sweetheart or mufti or something else and as you can see the pin is just tiny and probably the smallest I've seen on a badge this size.

Hi,

Your badge crossed swords surmounted with a miniature Rhodesia Regiment badge is listed in “The Military Badges and Insignia of Southern Africa” by Colin R. Owen, 1990 edition as: No2988 Royal Rhodesia Regiment Proficiency badge.

Zob.

Unfortunately I don’t know, however that’s precisely the same question that occurred to me, but not I might add, before amusing myself half the night thinking that there isn’t exactly a polite way of asking “Proficiency for what?”

I do however on a more serious note though, think that perhaps some of our South African/Rhodesian member/collectors might be a lot more clued up with regards to this particular piece. Also, when I get back to London in the next few weeks I’ll have a look through some of my more obscure tomes and see if I can find a mention there.

Zob.

Magpie, in the book Rhodesia Regiment 1899-1981 by Baxter/Bomford/Van Tonder et al, this is shown under Regimental Association / Sweethearts badges.

I have emailed one of the authors to see if he can add anything.

Wayne

Had the following back.

Yes a unit sweetheart sold in the canteen during the war. Also in series to this were cufflinks and pendant named to member ie Cpl Smith and sold in a ring box with small card in unit colours with message from the CO
