Leicestershire Regiment
I have this badge
it has no braizing holes which is an indication of WW1 period It has a gaunt stamp on slider. Overall good order. However after reading lots of stuff on forum I do not know if it is an honest badge or a fake. Can some exprt help please |

Your badge is a 1970s Gaunt Restrike, made well after this badge ceased to be worn!

more Leicester questions
thought it might be late copy made.
has anyone an opinion on whether there was an all brass economy badge for the Leicester territiorials - that is the badge less the Hindoostan scroll? I have seen one and suspicious if they even existed |

Wayne, there were certainly "brass economy" versions of the 'regular' badge WITH the Hindoostan scroll. 12,000 of them were ordered in April 1916.
There was also an all GM "economy" made for the 4th and 5th Bns - of which 6,000 were ordered at the same time - but you'll have to get a Leics expert to tell you whether they had a blank scroll or no scroll at all ! I hope this helps, J. |

Hi Wayne,
The economy version of the 4th and 5th Battalions TF Leicestershire Regiment are without the Hindoostan scroll consistent with the regular bi-metal version of this TF badge. There is considerable debate as to what is a "good one" of this economy issue badge as they are not common, I have one in my Leics album but it has a couple of recognised flaws so probably a repro but am leaving it in until I can verify. There are several collectors of Leics badges on the Forum and I suspect several will have the genuine article and would be nice to see one posted. Cheers Dean. |
