Default Airborne Men Get 'stand By' (1951)

Hi Team

Here is an interesting short out take of Paratroops training at Abingdon Berkshire 1951.

Of note is the close up of Formation signs, cloth titles, metal beret badges and cloth wings being issued.

The cloth wings appear to be horizontal feathers.

This clip has sound but no insignia

Interesting to note, towards the end, the RAOC soldier is still wearing the large pattern cap badge that had been replaced by the smaller pattern badge circa 1947/48 !

Great footage.

Interesting that the officer's parachute jumping instructor badge is the short-lived wire embroidered version.

Great video and thanks for sharing. That RE chap with the medals was a bit old to be doing that. Good on 'em.

Quick question. At the end when the troops are being marched into Abingdon, the third soldier in the front rank (possibly Royal Signals?) looks like he has two stars sewn to his left sleeve at the elbow. Would anyone know anything about that?

Thanks,
Dan.

You would certainly expect to see the Parachute badge to have been manufactured like that in 1951.

What interested me was the below image.

The cloth title and the printed pegasus.

I have several 1949 cloth Parachute titles arriving this week and want to add to this post war pegasus.

I have a possible 1948 made parachute title after re-reading Postwardens book.Once I get all together I will post for opinions.

I like 1945-55 period as it shows the changes that ocurred.

cheers

Phill

Hi Jerry

I posted this on another forum, before I joinned BBFc2017.

It was my first purchase of a Printed pegasus and thinking it was WWII.

The responce from was for 16 TA Bde c 1947-56, rare but not desirable.

I noted this down in my database and it was from J Bond!

Would be happy to clarify if it is repro or replica.......

cheers

Phill

Hi Jerry

British Airborne Insignia Forum. I think its closed down.

The ones you replied on the other forum had to do with embroidered versions.

Maybe its a timely discussion to find out if the Pegasus Formation sign is a replica.

I’m not Sure we can learn too much about the type para wings in this video. They look very much like the ones issued at the end of the war. Maybe the basket appears a little bit bigger on these. Can’t really conclude.
