Default CANADIAN PARA UNUSUAL DETAILS

HI good evening ,
I would just like to show this image of a Canadian parachute officer .
The photo was taken in 1950 and shows MAJOR DON HOLMES ( later BRIG-GENERAL ) and was taken whilst he was chief instructor at the Canadian joint air training centre ,Rivers ,Manitoba .
Can any one spot anything unusual regarding his insignia ?
will add more details in a few days ,hope this is of interest ,Nemo

Hi there ,yep major Don HOLMES served with the british airborne under the Canloan agreement in W.W.2
He served with the 12th ( Yorkshire ) batt. Parachute Regt from early 1944 untill the wars end he took part in the Normany landings ,the Ardennes and the Rhine crossing .
I just thought this was an interesting image for two reasons ,

The dark blue on light blue parachute regt titles still been worn at such a lated date ( 1950 ) but of more interest the fact been worn by a Canadian who`es unit did not wear them
Thanks for the replies , hope this was of interest , if any can or wants to add more about his service career please do , thanks ,Nemo.

If I recall correctly, BGen Holmes' son commanded the Canadian Airborne Regiment in the late 80s/early 90s.

In book Code Word CANLOAN he is shown as CDN491 HOLMES, Donald E. Capt. 12 Para. In the index he is listed on pages 36, 257, 262, 263, 265-6 and 269.

Try your local library and if they do not have it, try interlibrary loan. If that fails, contact me Colin Stevens.
