Royal Logistics Corps att S.A.S. ?
I brought this badge at Stratford on Sunday. Can you tell me anything about it? The RLC bullion badge has a SAND backing so my first thought was RLC officer att to the S.A.S. ?
If correct would they be seconded to the Support Sqn MT? Jerry engr9266

Chris, that is quite possible but I believe that the WO1 bullion badge is slightly bigger then the officer version.

As WO1's like Offr's bullion they are privately bought from tailors I always found them to be the same badge.

I'm thinking it could possibly be
158 (Anglian) Transport Regiment RLC (v) they wear the light brown beret, which would actually fit with this colour of officers bullion badge. Just a thought Jez

They were 5 RANGLIAN and wear the RANGLIAN khaki beret but I thought with the black backing so this badge would not be right for them.

I don't know what they wear nowadays but yes, the RLC at London Road, Peterborough simply continued on with the R Anglian's khaki beret with black badge backing when they rebadged as RLC.

These Sand backed bullion badges were at first (circa 1993) offered by the RLC regimental shop, but a ruling by the RLC Dress Committee stated that there are only now 3 official colours of RLC bullion badge backing, these being Dark Blue, Commando Green and Maroon. although slightly different shades & sizes are found, Officers & WO1 badges should be the same.
RLC personnel are attached to all 3 SAS regiments (mainly chefs) but since the formation of UKSF Support Regiment, not as many as there were. UKSFSR includes •Elements of 47 Air Despatch Squadron Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) •21 & 23 UKSF(R) Support Squadrons RLC RLC units providing drivers, technicians in support of the Special Forces. •Elements of 29 EOD and Search Group including both RE & RLC EOD operator's were like the SAS attached Officers/WO1's wear a Dark Blue badge direct onto the beret. |

Is there any indication that these were produced for RLC officers who were intended to be attached to Special forces?? Jerry

As these are bought rather than issued it's commercial so anything can be made.
In a similar vein the AGC attached personnel have worn other regts' (not just the SAS) berets. When the RAGLIANs were in Londonderry the AGC RAO wore a green backed badge on a RANGLIAN beret which looked odd. The Det Comd had bought a black backed AGC badge. This badge is not in any dress regulations but was made, bought and worn. My point is that the same lack of control over what is made by companies and sold, applies to many officers' badges. Isn’t the same colour beret worn by the Special Reconaissance Regiment? I imagine that the number of attached RLC personnel has increased quite a bit and thus justified sales.
