Another fake. The same seller can do a nice RAC Winged airborne badge for a £1 as well. Bargain! |

It’s in good company with a fake LRDG and Free French para. Hopefully members see this and no-one is caught out, he’s clearly gone to some effort to deceive.

How does one identify a genuine China Labour Corps badge? I thought they were very rare but of late are coming up on many sites. There are 2 on British Empire militaria and one sold. Difficult to ascertain if they're the real thing.
Last week there was one on ebay from Barry which was different - A dragon - which sold for nearly 400 I think. It was a lovely badge not the CLC design usually seen |

The C.L.C badge in the first picture is copyright to the Flanders Fields Museum. Note it is rather distinct and different from the numerous C.L.C badges flooding eBay over the past few months, second picture. Difference being: 1. Letter positions - note the C and L sit further apart on the eBay badges 2. Font - the C’s on the eBay badges are very ToysRUs and blobby; they also finish like a pair of pincers. Where the FFM badge has more regular C’s with sharp edges 3. Full stops - much deeper and more pointed on the FFM badge. Additionally the last full stop looks like an after thought nearly touching the rim and raised compared to the other 2. This is significantly different from the eBay fake where they are in a straight line, shallower and more rounded. If I was to buy an example of this badge it would be the FFM type. Hi
I can help with a DEFINITE original (unless our junk shops many years ago were accessing these "dud" items...) Mine has lost its blades though. I had had it for a LONG time before I knew what it was! Back in 2003, I went to China for a little under a month. I didn't see any of these C.L.C. badges (I wouldn't have known what they were anyway..) but I did get two wonderfully abused bronze British War Medals to the unit. One from Tianjian (old name "Tientsin" (?) and the other from a Beijing (the "Pekin" of roast duck fame...) market. Let me know if you would like me to post. |

Hi.
Please post photos of naming. I'm no expert but I'm basically a medal collector and while yours might be ok it is a fact that there are also many renamed medals to the Chinese Labour Corps as Bronze BWMs command high prices. A few years a lot of them turned up though of late I've not seen any on ebay or at auctions... The CLC has always been a minefield with regard to both medals and badges unfortunately.... |

Luke H, thanks for your post. For whatever it's worth I think your observations are correct
Hopefully the fakers will not turn out better ones |

In Carlton Canadian corps badges1st ed. 1995?
This is how I first identified my badge (post 12), doesn't look like the ffm badge. |

Hi
I'll happily post photos of the naming and the badge when I get time. These medals are most unlikely to be "dud" given the fact that they were remarkably cheap and also acquired in the area that you would expect them to be relatively common (i.e. China). Wait till you see the BWM with the suspension that owes more to a Salvador Dali moustache than anything else..... |
