More help needed with these modern badges
Hi again. I've lumped these all in as a lot to sell as modern badges. Have I missed any pre-1947 badges? I'm confused by the star on some which I ASSumed were Pakistani but I have read here that it is also on the Indian badges. What's what? Thanks in advance for any replies.

The star and crescent is used by Pakistan and the star by itself is used by India.
I can only assume that there are exceptions. Phil

The Lion of Ashoka in place of the crown/star denotes more recent or modern Indian badges.

Almost all modern Indian and Pakistani, though #45 is not - one of the Gulf states, I think. 1,2,3 and 10 are Pakistani militia/paramilitary units, descendents of the old Scout units of the IA - the Kurram Militia, Gilgit etc. 34 and 37 are Indian border units, also from the old Scouts lineage and I suspect a number of the other badges are from the IA militia/reserve forces. I don't have my sources handy but will try to get to them soon. Many are bog standard modern IA however and should be easy to ID with some quick googling.

The crossed kukris next to 42 appear to be 14th/20th hussars,KRH arm badges.

I'd definitely be interested in number 27 if you decide to sell seperately.

All of these are long gone I'm afraid. Thanks for your interest.

No. 4 is Saudi, I think: crossed scimitars and a palm tree is the house of Ibn bin Saud and probably the general issue badge for all Saudi military, but the scroll is the key.
No. 61 - Indian Army Brigade of Guards? I believe a few of the others may be found here, at Arctic Medals in Calgary, Canada: http://www.arcticmedals.com/page/page/3730573.htm |

Is identification still required for the badges in this old thread?
No. 61 indeed looks very much like The Brigade of the Guards (India). but most I have seen from them has a scroll BRIGADE OF GUARDS underneath. No. 37 is not an Indian border unit (as assumed above). It is The Baluch Regiment (Pakistan) between 1956 (the merge of 8th Punjab Regiment, The Baluch Regiment and The Bahawalpur Regiment) and 1991 (re-designated The Baloch Regiment and the badge text adapted accordingly). Is more identification still wanted by people? Then I can try.

Hi Henk. Thanks for looking in on this old post. All of the badges are long gone as I've flitted to another area of collecting these days.
