Default QVC Derbyshire regiment.

Good morning,
The badge below is often described as an OR's Forage cap badge, which is fine, but can anyone show me which cap that is ?
It measures approx 47mm x 44mm.
Thanks.

When this badge was first introduced the O/R forage cap was the 'field service cap. See attached for an image of the officer's version from the 1900 DR's.

prior to the design and introduction of this badge the collar badge was used in the cap (left one if the regiment had collar badges in facing pairs)

Thanks John,
I have 2 photos of the regiment wearing the Field Cap, one with a collar badge and the other with the cap badge with scroll, so was unsure if this badge was also worn on it. Thanks for confirming it was.

Hi there,

Here is a pic of the Regimental Side Cap with an Officer’s dress collar badge and because there are Chasers and Facers the ‘correct’ badge is with White Hart to the front. Officers dress Forage cap badges were also worn in Regimental side caps as you have noted.

Cheers Dean

Thanks Dean.
Your album on the regiment is fantastic by the way

Just a thought, do you think the construction of the badge may point to it being earlier than 1895 ? The new cap badges made the following year are all using the sweathole method.

Neil.

Thanks Neil,

I am a little embarrassed as the album needs a good tidy up and I haven't added new badges for quite some time but I have them on boards.

I do like early wired constructed badges like yours. I was going to comment on the gilt backing which pre-dated the blue enamel. There is info about that in my notes but I am challenged time wise to go through them and make an informed comment for you. I still owe info for another member on a Robin Hoods Rifles badge.

Leave it with me and I will see what I can add to its dating.

All the best, Dean
