Buffs VB in BB badges and Brodricks
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/soldier-1s...3D382080534078
Interesting photo that evidences both the use of Brodrick hats by VB and also the fact hat the Buffs 1 VB badges were in black. This Rifles' lineage was continued by the 4th TF. |

Three photos that show the interesting points referred to on the Buffs and two others that show the 2nd VB Royal Sussex in Brodricks.

Nice side on shot of the Sussex hat universal with a black square patch on the side and sussex cap badge.
I have always wondered about Sussex VB with long sliders but now that you have confirmed that they wore Brodricks then this long slider fitting is entirely consistent with Regularr 1903 pattern ones. Many thanks. |

Thanks for posting!
It appears that the badge worn on the Broderic in the case of the Royal Sussex photo follows the regular pattern and is without the additional VB scroll, whereas the one shown in the hat universal is the all WM VB badge with the additional volunteer scroll. It might be difficult to tell if the Broderic badge is all WM (usually on lugs and attributed to the militia) or in BM. KR, Pete. |

I agree with you. The militia were fitted by govt money so while the officers may have worn silver lace and silver badges, I suspect the ORs wore standard badges. The wm badges are far more likely to be the VB ones. Alan |
