Default WW1 Tank Corps Officer Cadet?

Hi All,

I've just been sent these photos of a Great Great Uncle, I know he got a commission into the Tank Corps right at the end of WW1, around October 1918 and served until at least October 1919.

Would I be right in thinking the white band around his hat means this was taken while he was an officer cadet?

I know this is the wrong forum but has anyone any idea what the ribbon would be? He was in the 1st Northumberland Volunteer Artillery and 1st Northumberland Brigade RFA(T) between 1900 and 1910 and when he joined up in WW1 he wasn't mobilised until 1917 if that helps.

Thanks a lot,

Michael

Michael,

I would agree he was a cadet with the white band.

i would suggest the ribbon is the TFEM, green with a central yellow stripe. I have made the assumption he was in the ranks whilst in the Volunteer and TF Artillery.

If he was always an officer it would be the TD,.

regards

Thanks a lot Simon,

As far as I know he was an OR, I know he was a Cpl in the tanks until he got his commission so I wouldn't have thought he'd drop ranks to join up again.

His commission will be recorded in the London Gazette which can be searched on line. You will probably need his full name in order to find him easily.

Thanks a lot, I have his WW1 commission but I haven't looked earlier.

I did think it was odd that he had been a reserve for so long yet when WW1 broke out and he signed up in early 1915 they didn't call him up for 2 years.
