Default 'Virtual' Regimental Museum/s - [Royal Norfolk]

Probably a daft idea, but been thinking for a while now about uploading some of my photos of the long-gone Royal Norfolk Regimental Museum, in Norwich.

From previous threads I am aware other members also have photos of the museum/exhibits, and wondered how worthwhile a venture it might be to pool our pictures and perhaps put together a joint forum album or shared interest social group, that will (albeit partially) put some of the display back on show, so to speak.

My photos from back then are not of particularly good quality (see below ), but they do at least offer a tiny glimpse of what the museum and exhibits were like. With others' contributions, it might create a reasonable picture of the old place.

Would those members who have images of/from that museum be wiling to contribute?

I am sure there must be other long-gone museums, drill halls, etc., that we have photos of; Davies Street, London Scottish HQ, to name but two I could share photos of.

Just a thought.

Regards to all,

JT

Sounds like a great idea JT.

Speaking for myself I’d love to see them.

JT,
I have some photos taken just before the museum closed in 2011. Variable quality and taken through glass but happy to contribute.
Two examples here that I posted recently:

Cheers gents. Let's see what sort of response there is. Hopefully there will be enough interest to make it a worthwhile endeavour.

That's the sort of thing, Tim. I dare say some of us may have similar, if not identical pics, but if there is enough interest and source material, no harm in adding all contributions.

Cheers,

JT

Hi JT. I agree, it’s a great idea and I’d love to see any photos. I visited the museum often enough but unfortunately I don’t have any photos I could contribute. If others were willing to share and could find the time to post then I would be v appreciative.
Thanks

I love the idea, and would love to see the pics. I think it could expand into a really interesting thread as people contribute where they can.

Cheers, Tim

Maybe a sub-forum with a thread dedicated to singular named museums?

Although, we would have to be very conscious of possible copyright issues.

If it goes ahead, I’m thinking that perhaps a forum social group might be the best way of organising the thing. The social group format enables anyone to upload contributions in a way that places submissions in one space, rather than via intermittent, individual posts throughout a protracted thread, or within an individual member’s album that requires its owner to upload others’ images to it. The social group is, effectively, a communal space to display and discuss, in much the same way as a museum.

Thoughts, suggestions, ideas welcomed… a sub-forum is a good idea (as suggested above by T). Would that enable album-like viewing of contributors’ images?

As an aside: I visited the KSY Museum, at Hever Castle, over the bank holiday weekend, thanks to Simon ‘Hawthorn’s’ recommendation. It’s a small but excellent display. I mention this as I’m wondering whether or not (as touched upon above) current/existing museums might also be included in any development a ‘virtual museum/s’ forum social group might explore?

Again, thoughts, ideas, suggestions welcomed.

Regards to all,

JT

P.S. Are there any negatives about the social group format that anyone knows of?

Thanks
Paul,

Many's the time I have neglected to take pics of displays and lived to regret it. Mountains of stuff from the HAC Museum, I wish I had snapped.

Sorry Bob, not sure if this question was intended for me. If so, the answer is no. I do have a couple of an officer's FSC and badge (c.1900). Do you have any of the beret and backing?

Tim, I assume the pics come with your tacit permission to reproduce within the proposed project?

Thanks Tim. No idea at present how many will be willing or able to contribute, but looks as though there is a decent amount of interest so far.

Thanks for the sub-forum suggestion, Toby (addressed in previous post).

JT,
I have a few more pictures and all can be added to a ‘virtual museum’ project. The social group format is probably best as once set up it is quite straightforward for any member to add images from their own albums.
