4th Air landing Anti Tank Bty Royal Artillery
Gents need some help can you please confirm the insignia that would have been worn by an officer of the 4th Air landing Anti Tank Bty Royal Artillery attached to the 6th Airborne on D-Day?
I assume Maroon Beret with RA cap badge? Would this have been OSD bronze or a gilt example? Would the badge have been backed with any particular flash or material? Shoulder titles? Printed or woven and what would they be? Royal Artillery standard Red on Navy or Blue on Maroon? Would the officers be parachute trained so wearing wings as well? Sorry for all the questions but I need to get this 100% right. Best regards |

I believe that standard titles will have been worn - ROYAL ARTILLERY in red on blue. In an Airlanding Anti-Tank unit there is unlikely to have been any functional requirement for officers to be parachute trained, but inevitably some will have done the course. If so they will have worn wings if they could get away with it - otherwise the "lightbulb". I think that RA personnel in Div and Bde HQ will have been parachute trained as will FOO parties in Airlanding Light Regts and FOB teams (joint RN/RA) who jumped into Normandy with 6 AB Div. The attached is only relevant in as much as it demonstrates how flexible dress regulations could be when on operations (Normandy in this case):
