A small group of MGC badges attributed to CHT-879 Driver Tom Walker transferred MGC. The badges are cast.

Kind regards

Nice to see cast badges, what is the actual attribution?

Hi Andy,Pleased to see you still have good interest in the MMG.
I am pleased to say I have just bought (The Hens Teeth) in the NZ MMG Badges
The NZMG Bronze Officers Hat and Collar matching set.
Will post some photos when they arrive.
The secret is to keep looking.
Regards
Ray Smith

I can't believe the price that this has just sold for

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-...383.l44720.c10

Taken from the same die as the two badges in this thread, but £36? Really?

Not sure Andy. It doesn't match any issue MGC cap badge in my collection and I have quite a few different strikes. The fact that the one in the opening thread gives validity to this cast badge and would indicate that it is of local manufacture plus worn by a member of the Corps would suggest that it has a place in any respecting MGC collection. Of course it is down to personal preference;

a, It is not issued from ordnance

b, Evidence would suggest that badges were often locally sourced

c, The Machine Gun Corps served in theatres that these cast badges come from

All down to personal choice, but £36? You can get an issue one for between £10 an £20!

I do agree with you, and do belong in collections.

I think you would be very fortunate to buy an original MGC cap badge for a mere £10 these days.

Just a little plug for you MGC collectors.
I gave up collecting the badges (most went to Andy) but I've been trying to write a history of 123 Coy for some time.

I'd be grateful if anyone comes across any information with badges or medals such as letters, photographs etc let alone an identified name (I have about 180 names so far).

thanks

thanks
J

Don't get pulled in by the overpriced badges that you see being offered online. Prices are being pushed up somewhat by certain dealers IMO. My last MMG cap badge badge cost me £9.99 plus postage. My last MGC cos £9 plus postage, both genuine. I know I got very lucky with the MMG, but I wouldn't pay more than £20 for a standard MGC badge as they are really rather common and will often be found for less. It is just a case of knowing your subject, being patient and not buying the first badge you see.
