Well just tried to buy one the North Irish Horse and to be sure I would definitely have had a go at using it, just to see if I could! (Not to be making and then selling them on, but for my own curiosity! just because I have the skills to do so and MASSIVE! Fly-presses at work - even a bench and vice!!!)

Needless to say outbid at every stroke, started out at £44.99, I stopped at £60 as every time I put in a bid I was beaten left it at £64.99 but with postage thats like £100 if the bloke bids and wins them all its worth collecting but for myself I thought it would be nice to actually own one (Irish Rgts) for the curiosity factor alone! and as a metalworker to see its manufacture and appreciate both! If you see where I'm comming from!

The fact there are QC dies amongst them makes me think these are possibly dies used for making reproduction badges anyway.

I have just spoken to the seller who I know well .....he is posting on behalf of the Bham company that produced them and they are just gathering dust and need to be out of the way..........and they were the 'G & N' Company quoted earlier and were official Government Producers.
They will most probably end up as scrap metal.
And as 'Billy' said earlier inquiries are from ex squaddies for their own Regiment.

Just back from Stratford and had to have a look to see how much the one I was after went for? £171.99 wasn't going nowhere with my bid actually had a few more goes up to over £80, a lot of money going to change hands here!

In my case Simon curiosity! To have the Tooling which made so many badges apeals to me as a collector and also as a metalworker, a well made piece of Engineering Tooling speaks to you it performs a function but can have a beauty in its own right if well made!

Looking at the Highland Cyclists dies that were offered if they were made in 1908 I’m a monkeys uncle. There is no way that those dies were original.

The irony of a badge faker who sells fake badges as original on ebay being duped in to buying a fake die on ebay!

On the bright side the money raised by the sale of these can help pay for a better or new generation fake die set.

Gladman & Norman werent founded until 1910 and only made badges during WW2.

Perhaps it was a Black watch badge in the die and not Highland Cyclist Bn. Just a thought.

The listing clearly shows the absence of the sphinx and rather messy lower scrolls found on the fakes.
