Hi Collectors,

Just arrived via UPS from the United Kingdom and into my collection, an officer's post 1887 home service helmet to the 1st Volunteer Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. This is an all-original example with original helmet plates, no mothing, no additional hole and completely devoid of any damage... comments, please...

The dating I thought for this helmet plate was 1883 to 1891.

THANK YOU for stopping and taking time to look at my post of the newest addition to my collection... and thank you for your very kind, very generous remarks!

As to the dating of the helmet and the helmet plate in particular, I think I am correct in that this helmet plate reflects the 1887 change in regimental title from "The South Yorkshire Regiment" to "The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry" and the removal of the small scroll that appeared below the bugle horn inscribed "Cede Nullis" on pre-1887 officer's home service helmet plates. Hope this is helpful.

I was going off another source I had been researching on 1st VB formation from the 3rd Administrative Battalion West Riding of Yorkshire Rifle Volunteer Corps.

Thank you, glad I could help re-orient your "research compass". I think, for me, living in the United States with a somewhat limited access to research materials and sources such as regimental museums and regimental associations, libraries and the like, tracing regimental linages can become a bit problematic and very confusing given the amalgamations, reforms, name changes and simple re-ordering of the words in official regimental titles... and unofficial! I would be interested in seeing the results of your 3rd Administrative Battalion, West Riding of Yorkshire Rifle Volunteer Corps research, if you care to share it.
