Default "IL" Collar badge

This came in a mixed lot off Ebay. trawled all of my books and can not find anything. Grateful for any help.

Roman numerals for "49"?
(An incorrect version mistakenly used, the correct one would be "XLIX").
The badge looks similar to the Gloster's back badge wreath but not as if it's been adapted from one.

It's definitely a one piece stamping. I'd say genuine - but I stand to be proved wrong. The 49th Foot went into the Berkshire Regiment. Does anyone know if this a catalogued badge, if it was ever worn or just an oddity?

During some research into RAF badges I found a drawing of this badge. The author believed it is a collar badge for the Iraq Levies.

Here is a copy of the drawings I mentioned earlier. The text says they think the collar is possibly for British personnel attached from the Army in the 1920s - prior to handover to the RAF in 1935.
