British army officers shoulder rank insignia, the number and variation of combinations of stars and crowns indicating different ranks.
They've been linked together by chain for some reason.
There's nothing to link them to colonial India.
The type of crown shown is that of the current Queen.

I would suggest that this has been made as a ladies jewelry item, maybe for mess evenings?
Cheers,
Alex

I wondered, but the chains look to be a cheap quality metal, maybe anodised, not a proper job, but is that seperate pip on the right an ear ring?
Could be a spoof mess presentation piece, the old Crown Imperial magazine showed at least one such piece which included a lance bombardier's chevron and other insignia on a chain which had been "awarded" to a senior officer upon his retirement.

No sir, that single one is part of the bracelet that is no longer attached. The pair of bracelets belonged to my mum. Her dad was adopted by his stepdad. His mum was "in service" and got pregnant and was sent to an unwed mothers home.
We think this might be a clue to the actual person who got her preggo.

One of the stars worn on the shoulder strap would be for 2nd Lieutenant, two for Lieutenant, three for Captain.
The crown would be a Major, crown and one star Lieutenant Colonel, crown and two stars Colonel, crown and three stars Brigadier.
Different insignia were included in the combinations for ranks above Brigadier.

Yes, I understand the ranking system of crown and stars. Both bracelets are one crown, and 4 stars. Couldn't find any rank with that, so I guess it was cobbled together, and not from one person.
