Default Berkhamsted OTC badge

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brass-WWI...53.m1438.l2649

Is the buyer a forum member and did they realize that it's OTC and not RVC?

Very strange. Unlikely it’s description got pulses racing.

Looks a case of it two bidders really wanting it and going ridiculously high for a broken badge.

I’ve seen undamaged correctly described ones sell for ten to twenty quid less on eBay relatively recently.

I am well aware it's Berkhamsted School OTC, a proper one with unbroken antlers for a start which is rare in itself. I've seen many listed as the School OTC but none of them were correct. As for ridiculously high, no, my max bid was £46 which won it, another forum member also bid on it I believe so he thought his bid would cover it easily too as I did!! Anyway, next one will go cheaper as I have this one now, really P's me off when people say "ridiculously high" Luke, only worth what someone is willing to pay mate. I've seen them cheaper with antlers missing but didn't see the good ones you mention selling recently.
I know a man who can repair it for me too
Wilf.

Wilf,
No offence was meant and it’s not a rude word or meant that way. If you’re happy with it and what you paid then that’s all that matters and I genuinely am happy for you. It’s like watching Bargain Hunt and seeing an item take off, it may be worth what was bid/paid to those two people fighting it out but not everyone else in the room or on the market. That doesn’t mean that everyone else isn’t entitled to their opinion on something that went higher than expected.
If you’re happy with it that’s what counts and other opinions shouldn’t affect that.
Luke

I offered a white metal RVC slouch hat badge on the classifieds a while back without any interest.

I can't remember who told me, but I believe that the way to tell the difference between the Berkhamstead OTC badge and the Volunteers badge (other than loops vs slider) is to study the ground the stag stands on. Of course, I am well aware that badges where re used, but the difference is there albeit very subtle. Just thought I would bring it up. Nice badge by the way Wilf
