Cool Grenade

I think this is a Guards badge worn by hospital staff during the Boer War.

Hi,
The fixings are similar to those on Italian badges.
Cheers,
Tinto

Then again as already suggested, Italian The grenade with impressed cross was a feature in a number of different units badges cWWII.

Looks Italian, monarchy period. Greek is also a good contender

A view of the reverse would precise if the cross is stamped or not

Has a previous design on the ball of the grenade been rubbed down and the cross stamped into the metal as a post manufacture alteration? It looks to be quite a rough job.

Cool Guards Brigade Field Hospital

This badge was worn by personnel of the Guards Brigade Field Hospital during the Boer War.

Bosleys sold a pair of collar badges which were similar in 2013.

Excuse my twopence worth - I may be wrong
Yes indeed there is said to be a Guards Field Hospital badge of the Boer war period - but I thought the cross was mounted or struck on the ball of the grenade, not impressed into it. The rear fastenings look continental, ie a form of 'blades'
Also - the number of flames to the grenade look to be too few - better image would help.
I hope I am not muddying the water - and the badge does look similar to Guards Field Hospital despite my concerns.

Mike,

I believe you are right.
Despite its similarity it looks typically flimsy foreign construction to me.
