‘Fake restrike’.
Double negative, does that mean it’s real? Or not even a real fake? 🤪 |

He recently won the attached frame at DNW and contacted me shortly after saying he’d been personally assured by DNW they were ‘all original badges’ within. Sadly as you can see in the second picture the ones with red crosses are all very obvious fakes, conspicuously apparent from the front and not even requiring a second glance or inspection of the reverse. Indeed it was highly likely others, such as the small RUR badge, were also fakes. So, £550 hammer price is an awful lot for a lot of rubbish from an esteemed auction house. Thankfully on arrival and inspection they were so obviously repros this time he felt empowered to challenge DNW and return them, which I’m pleased to say is what happened. There is no part of me that believes Dixon Pickup ever came within visual range of that frame despite what DNW say. |

Really interesting Luke. Personally I would not trust an auction house any more than I trust anybody else. James in Norfolk sell some right old rubbish and people lap it up. I don’t know Endici (Paul) but he seems a decent enough bloke hopefully he will think a bit more going forward and not take it for granted that if it’s from an auction house it’s good. It will be better for everybody.

I find him to be one of the best dealers going. I am not a Yeomanry expert and I don't see what is wrong with the NY badge myself but I don't collect.
David is far better and more reasonably priced than many of the well known dealers. He is a man of his principles and if I was going to criticise some dealer's practices then there are many many more higher up my list. Alan |

I was talking to someone who made/makes fake badges a couple of years ago, he said a well known seller on Ebay had bought and used his fakes to make his fakes, so yes fake of a fake badge.

Fake Norfolk Yeomanry
Could anyone tell me exactly why the badge shown originally is a fake?

Hi Rob it’s die struck on lugs in some sort of brass very thin and not genuine. These all surfaced a while back but go on EBay you can buy one any time. The real deal is die cast on a slider and really good quality.

Norfolk Yeomanry
I bought my Norfolk Yeomanry on loops in 1965, it's a good strong badge and I have queried this before with other people, I was told the reason loops were ordered on this type of badge was that the badges on sliders moved around and loops held the badge in place better.

"All dealers and sellers have bad ones put out at times."
There are sellers who don't have a website but sell on ebay, forums, bidorbuy, privately and elsewhere. I know one person who has sold over US$50,000 worth and never sold a fake. I know another person who has sold more than that and never sold a fake. Both people never had a website selling their items but sold privately etc. |
