8th Reconnaissance Regiment Badges

I have a question about the 8th Reconnaissance officer cap badges.

Chris Brooker’s book indicates there are two variations of the officers cap badge. The first photo is of one of the variations in his book. He does not have a photo of the second variation.

The second photo was sent to me by a friend.

My question is about the CANADA scroll on the two badges. Brooker’s photo shows the ends of the scroll curling under. The photo of the badge from my friend does not have the end of the scroll curling under.

Could my friend’s badge be second variation that Brooker notes in his book?

From the images it appears the scroll ends have been removed / are missing. I am not sure that is to what Brooker was referring as a second pattern.
