Default ZAP Badge - but what Regiment?

A modern "ZAP" badge MA 7305 B POS next to a standing Lion and 1 COY GP

Any ideas on which regiment has/had a 1 Company Group ??

Hi Tom,

I can only think of the Royal Gurhka Rifles that - have done/do - work in independent Company Groups.

Best,

Marcus

It's a HERRICK badge and Coy Gps were used all the time to pull together various cap badges in to one formation. I suspect the lion has no regtl affiliation. It could even be an Afghan lion.

Zap numbers are pretty, unique! I'm sure someone with access and the right permissions could search for MA7305, and without disclosing the individuals ID could ID their parent unit?

Default ZAP Numbers

For those wondering what the heck a ZAP Number is, it is a combination of the service persons first two letters of their surname and the last for numerals of their service number. Used for conveying ID via radio messages.

I may be wrong, but its almost certainly 2 LANCS Coy Gp used during HERRICK when they were used as the Theatre Reinforcement Battalion in small sub units. The CO christened them 'Lions of England'. Lions all over their kit and Bn HQ offices.

The only Afghan lion I know of, was in the Kabul Zoo, where he was already pathetic. There is a whole story about him (Marjan is the name). Tried to eat a hand grenade ........

Interested in the lineage of the unit your badge represents?
Try: Regimental lineages
