American to English Translator Required
Hi Guys,
This is some correspondence between myself and a USA Print broker that occurred today, 6th July 2012. Although I can guess, I'm not 100% sure what the final email from the print broker meant and would like an interpretation/confirmation by someone fluent in the American written word. From myself to the print broker: Hi xxxx, I hope this email finds you well. xxxx, I have been busy on the book and am at a stage where apart from some final work for image review I am ready to get new quotes etc. re book printing. What do we do from here? I'll let you 'drive' all this - send a new email as required - this one is quite old now with a lot of info that is probably out of date. Regards Chris Reply: Hello Chris- can you please provide all the current specs for your title? (Including delivery destination and postal code). Thanks, xxxx Back to the print broker: Hi xxx, Yes can do but can you tell me what you need to know re: book specifications. I will then investigate and reply on a point by point basis. Regards Chris Reply: You now, here's something a Brit might say: Off you go! (I mean it) cheers, xxxx Question: Did I just get told to 'piss off' for some reason? Regards Chris |

It reads like gibberish but it has a very dismissive feel about it,

Why not ask him? At worst, he can only say more clearly what you think he has said anyway...

Hi Chris,
First, I'm as American as they come and I don't understand what you've been told. Sorry, I can't translate. My thought is that there is no explaining stupid. Did he mean you know, instead of "you now"? Very poor, IMHO. I would send another email asking, again, that the specs be spelled out, then sign it Off I Go Chris. Good Luck Don

Well, if I'd received an unprofessional reply like that that would be all I needed to know about the company. Think, if down the line you have a problem during the job you will not be be able resolve it with their communication skills.
Go elsewhere would be my advice - Whatever smart alec 'Mr Clarity' meant; he's done you a favour. |

Thanks Guys,
As Mike said I think that he has informed me all I need to know about this company and has probably done me a favour. Obviously a good idea to dump this joker and go elsewhere. Still dunno what I did to wind this guy up though... Regards Chris |

You've not done anything Chris, apart from try to be precise with things, which is the norm for dealing with "Good" publishers.
REDNECK is the word that springs to mind lol Ken

Hi Andy, Ken, Tankie;
Well, maybe he has some issues in the background and, as said, it may be safer to go elsewhere. Regards Chris |

Hey,
GF is a printer/print-finisher and she says yes, you've been told "to go forth and multiply"..... she says you've not spoken to the printer in all likelyhood, it'll be marketing, sales or accounts (or all 3 depending on the size of the company), and she says look elsewhere. Try smaller companies, if your doing under 50,000 runs the bigger companies won't be as interested or they'll stick the price up... If your uk based she can probably give you some leads Tom |

The chap is based in the USA as the 'front' man for a very large Asian printing company. Unfortunately I'm not based in UK and, as you say, I will try elsewhere. It seems that certain segments of the print industry are getting through this recession without my help so that must be good news for someone somewhere. Regards Chris |
