Default Guards MG Again

Dear All

I have been going through my Guards items following the post yesterday, and remembered I have duplicated KK922. I am fairly sure both are genuine, but thought I would post then out of interest, and for any comments.

The wear on these is different obviously, but the die looks to be the same? There is horizontal line on the top of each slider which strikes me as interesting. I wonder if members have other examples for comparison?

Cheers, Neil

Quite a selection Andy. Lucky you too! It's the first time I've looked at these. I note yours has the crease as well. Must be a good sign!

I see you have the HM Officers - different version to mine. I am now wondering whether the centre plate of the rear of mine is missing...!

On the post yesterday, I asked if KK923 was available in Bronze, and now realise my error. I meant KK922, being this one. Never seen one, and I agree your one on the thread somehow doesn't look right.

Anyway, reassuring, and I value your opinion. Thanks again. I am up for swaps, if anyone is interested, but limited options I'm afraid.

Cheers, Neil

Default Guards Machine Gun Regiment

There is an officers version which is solid silver and cut out light the other ranks version.

We have one on display at the Guards Museum and also a large officers group photo showing the same badge being worn.

I have to say this is the only solid silver one I have even seen

Hi Gary

Are you saying that the Crossed Guns version is available in Silver, but not in Bronze?

It'd be great to establish this as KK specifically states it is available in bronze..

Cheers, Neil

Hello Gary. Are any of those pictures in the public domain or would you be able to post pictures of the OR's GMGR crossed guns badge in use? I'm very interested in GMGR insignia. The only pictures of my grandfather who enlisted mid 1918 show him with 2LG cap badge and what looks like just LG shoulder titles, no '2'. I have seen pictures of 2LG using cloth S/Ts and a LG cap badge but any pictures or links you might have to GMGR insignia in use would be of interest to me. Regards, Paul.

This post seems to have resurrected! Since my last post I have discovered that there was a number of bronze badges made, but I am uncertain they were ever issued. I now have one, and it has no blades or lugged, in mint condition. Ex Hugh King, so one can only assume this was the one referred to in his book.

A reliable source has indicated that he has seen a box of unissued ones in the IWM. Does anyone have additional info?

Cheers, Neil

HMS (1916) on the left - Jennens & Co on the back plate and on the main part of the badge. Unmarked silver on the right.
