Barnet Ambulance. VTC?
A strange one this as the gentleman appears to be wearing a VTC uniform. However, his armband clearly states Barnet Ambulance. I can find nothing about the Barnet Ambulance on the internet.

I am wondering if the cap badge might be that of the Old Boys' Corps.

Simon,
If this man is VTC, then I wonder if perhaps his corps might have had a dedicated section assigned to a local hospital. I know in the case of the City of London National Guard, as a result of the Zeppelin attacks on London, men from their ambulance section undertook air-raid duties at St. Bart’s Hospital. Initially they were engaged in stretchering patients from their beds to places of greater safety during raids, though these duties later expanded to incorporate duties previously undertaken by RAMC orderlies who were required elsewhere. Just a thought. 5E8E3070-D8FD-459D-B637-62D68415A283.jpg (CLNG Ambulance Section, 1915-16) I wonder if one our resident VTC boffins (such as Tim ‘TWGB’, or Graham Stewart) might be able to place the cap badge in your photo? Great picture - thanks for posting. JT |

J.T.,
many thanks for the update and the photographs. In my ignorance I have always thought of Barnet as being in North London, and yet somewhere in the back of my mind, I was aware of the Hertfordshire connection. However, he is not wearing either of the two Hertfordshire VTC badges illustrated in K&K. I still think that the Old Boy's Corps is the likeliest badge being worn but I do not know if they covered the Barnet area. Simon |

JT,
Thanks for the photo of the VTC Ambulance Section arm badge. Knew it existed but never seen it in person or in a photo. regards

The photo is clearly not inverted otherwise the ‘A’ would be the other way round JT |
