Recent Purchase Rare Scottish Badges
I recently purchased a large lot of 13 Scottish Helmet Plates and badges, all appear to be original. There were two that stood out to me and are not shown in Bloomers or K&K and I am making an assumption on both that they are either Officer's badges or perhaps Pipers. The first being what I think is an Officers badge to The Inverness Banff Moray Nairn Militia, badge is heavy silver, not hallmarked, extremely well made and in excellent condition, measures 72mm high by 60 mm wide. It was heavily tarnished and has been cleaned up. The second Shako badge is for the 31st Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers in silver plate measuring 70 mm tall by 65 mm wide. Also included in the lot were a HP for The 2nd Aberdeenshire R.V., The 2nd Edinburgh Rifle Volunteer Corps, The 5th Vol. Bn The Scottish Rifles, The Royal Scots, The KOSB, The Cape Town Highlanders, The Queensland Scottish. Also included a Crossbelt badge for The Queens Edinburgh Rifle Brigade and for the London Scottish Volunteers and The King's Liverpool Regt 8th VB Scottish. Last a original badge to the 1st Aberdeenshire Rifle Volunteers. Photos of the two I assume rare badges are attached, I will be selling them.

From what I can see, in my opinion, I believe you acquired a very nice parcel of badges.

Very striking badges indeed.
Just an observation as I do not collect HP or HPCs but the lettering on the Royal Scots HPC looks rounded and stereotypically repro. I’m sure others more experienced with HP and HPCs can confirm but personally I wouldn’t buy it. As for the 8th (Scottish) V.B. King’s Liverpool Regt PBP your man for that one is definitely P.B. as I understand it’s an officer’s only design, and if I recall correctly P.B’s is HMS. |

I was led to believe that all 8th Scottish VB pbp’s were in hall marked silver that was until I acquired a complete pouch belt set with pouch and waist belt all with white metal fittings ( shown in some detail in my albums ).
https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ictureid=91065 The give away for a lot of the non genuine examples is that genuine examples always have screw post fittings. P.B.

Soap and water and a soft bristle brush for all except the silver ones which received a gentle cleaning with silver polish to get rid of some tarnish. They are all in great condition, less a couple of missing lugs which I have replaced.
