Default Queens prize 1889 Cloth Badge

An interesting shooting badge dated 1889, Aberdeen Wapinshaw.
The winner is Sergeant David Reid, 1st Lanark (Engineers).

Hi Will,
Lovely badge thanks for sharing, however this an Aberdeen Wappenshaw Queens Prize not 'The' Queens prize at Wimbledon as it was. The Wappenshaw was a district match to ensure marksmanship at that level, still carried on today by Rifle Clubs. Possible it was the same man given his Scottish links but it could be a different guy. Regards Mark

Thanks for pointing that out Mark, in my haste I completely missed the difference being Wimbledon.
I had a similar badge years ago glued in the corner of a framed photo that had soldiers wearing the badge. Should have kept it.

Will, still a lovely thing, it should also be possible to find out the owner, I would start with the Scottish Rifle Association & the National Rifle Association (who have an Archivist). At that time Shooting results were published in the Newspapers, so still worth a look. Regards Mark
