I don't know why the twin osd should be made the dates for the osd introduction should mean that it does not exist but this is the british army so maybe somebody was responsible for getting it wrong since I acquired them I have been waiting for the rest to flood market in the way the duds do but nothing

Two more the first twenty years ago I would have dismissed now I don't know

the second when my late father decided that the beret he had worn since the 50's was finally past it, he bought another I think in about 82 don't know where he got it from but the badge was attached so I had it, apart from that I know nothing

I would be happy with the first badge and don’t doubt it’s genuine despite not being voided between the turrets and Gib scroll.

Thanks Luke I was quite hopeful by the general construction and strength of the slider it was just it's finish, but since seeing my partners late fathers royal west kent that looked as if it had been struck hit with a hammer and struck again I look with a little less thoughts to a good finish.
However I still don't know what to make of the bullion.

Now for some white metals fairly happy with the first two

The second two look to be later possibly 7th bn armoured I believe I read something about them in the museum in bury however the first has no viod between the crown and oakleaves and the second is not voided between the turrets

Hi Neil,
I don't know if there has been a "definitely not" verdict given on your 2 Tower OSD, yet, although, you, yourself, do seem a bit doubtful. However, there is absolutely no doubt about your rather nice, hallmarked, QVC, I don't suppose there's any chance of that needing a new home, anytime, soon?

Thanks for your reply luke and not much hope i'm afraid chris
Has anyone any thoughts on 7bn w/m from the second war. I assume from the similarity of the strikes of the first two that the first is a 1VB.

The next three badges I have no problems with the first two but the second has a more unusual fixing. The third seems to be an unbronzed osd with a slider but I don't like the sliders style for it's period and any gaunt stamp is no help

The Gaunt is a fake I am afraid.

I am dubious about the w/m lugged ones as the RAC connection is unproven and any period Suffolk badge would not be lugged even on a beret.

Hi alan

7bn Suffolk Reg the information I was able to find was that in nov 1941 it became 142nd Regiment RAC and served in north africa / Italy equipped with Churchill tanks Disbanded Jan 1945. But continued to wear Suffolk badges. The problem I had was Moyse Museum Bury had a w/m badge and attributed to them.

I am sure they did wear their old badges as did other RAC regiments. These were either left in their original finish or could have been chromed or nickel plated to stand out on the black beret.

Also at the end of the war it was fashionable to have a coloured side cap for wear walking-out with best battledress. These were privately bought and were often adorned with chromed cap badges to complete the effect.

Nice collection of collars, Neil, a silver pair of those, as well, I notice, I do have a couple of silver cap badges, but one is just plate and the other, unmarked. Hall marked stuff is nice, you can date it to the year, of course, and have a bit of a better idea where it may have been!
