Default East Surrey Regiment officer's ca badge.

Does anyone have any thoughts regarding this East Surrey Regiment cap badge? The tangs would suggest that it was worn by an officer, but it is not of the best quality.

Looks to be what was to become a bronzed OSD badge, prior to having the finish applied.

I think two things have happened here, 1. An over zealous Batman, 2. A naive collector giving a ‘dirty’ badge a damn good clean.
East Surrey badges are not all of the highest quality. Both ORs and Officers seem to be of wide variation in strike and assembly.

Thank you for your observations. Based on which, my guess is that it was a finished badge that has had the bronze coat removed. I am not sure if it would be worth the effort of getting it re-coated with a bronze finish.
