Suffolk Regiment Pagri Badges.

Contemporary photograph's are few and far between, but here is one of the 1st battalion wearing the badge in the pagri on the Foreign Service Helmet.

Ah, well! things do not really seem to be going too well, I am, nonetheless, most grateful for everyone's thoughts on my "collection" so far, it is a rather disappointing outcome, but such is life, I guess!

The photograph is useful but I suggest that it is a "cap badge". I haven't looked at the RACD entry for the Suffolks but the 1896 Patern KLR "cap badge" is described as 'also for the Foreign Service Helmet'.

There are photographs of the King's wearing their "cap badge" on the side - but I can't remember whether it was ordained for front or side.
I have what I think is a KLR "FSH" badge - in that it has long loops!


The authorised FSH badge was the HPC with a long slider - authorised 1903.


I also have a 1926 Pattern King's with a long slider that might have been a late badge for the FSH (or perhaps for wear on the "slouch")

I think the cap badge is much smaller, Julian.

I’m guessing that Julian is referring to the Helmet Plate Centre worn on the FSH. I’d agree this is possible but that photo clearly shows a crown at the top.

The badge worn in the photo is probably twice the size of the cap badge, I can’t see how it could be compared.

I have looked up Suffolks "cap badges"

the first Pattern 4565/1897 was to be worn on the Field Cap and on the FSH !
the second Pattern 4565A/1901 was to be worn on the FC and on the FSH and on the SD Hat (ie slouch).


So, it looks as though the Regt unofficially produced their own (larger) FS badges (as the King's also did - cf post 18. I'm sure others did too).
