Just found reference to these bed/duty plates, in " standing orders Coldstream Guards 1907 ". Referred to as quite simply " bed tickets "

Thanks Andy to be honest I didn't go out of my way to collect them, just used to pick them up if they were 'cheap as chips'
Regards

And reviving that favourite, "old topic would you clean it?" I am now the official owner of the GG bed plate(I was the unofficial owner before i.e I nabbed it) and it's looking very grubby. Might just give it a little rub with a cloth rather than going the whole nine yards. But I'm very tempted to have it looking pristine...

As an ex Guardsman myself I would clean it to a pristine condition as that is certainly how it would have appeared when in possession of the original owner!

Simon.

I know it's extremely tempting, the eternal wrestle of conscience between retaining patina and making it look as it should. It's a struggle.
As you can see in the pic, it's dead grubby.

A dilemma I know but he would have lost his name with his bed plate in that condition

Perhaps Andy can give an opinion on this one.

Simon.

Give it a rub if it makes you happy, it's not as though you will damage it!

Bare in mind that it's not a magic lamp, so I hope you will not be disappointed!

Just found another one of these bed plates at the flea market. I wonder how these are ending up in the states.

speaking about plates, I spotted this one recently. But the lettering/font seems not quite right...
