Default 6th VB

Here are a few badges to the Oldham Battalion, the 6th VB

The two with owls on are the Pouch Belt and pouch badges.

The Cap and collar badges had a South Africa 1901-1902 scroll below them, and the collar badge can also be found with the date 1900-1902

regards

Default 63rd Badges

Jeff,

Some lovely items there. |The last frame is suberb!!
I wonder how many of those badges are now in my collection. I certainly have all the Albert Shako plates, and I bet they came for there.

regards

Default Manchester

Andy C,

Sorry these posts were out of sequence, I hadnt had any notification by email that it had been updated for some reason

Anyway, the rose.
Contemporary photos of the 3rd VB show this rose being worn on their pouch belts.

One photo is large enough to see which way it is worn. There are 6 SNCO's and 4 have it point down and 2 have it point up!!.

So, It appears it didnt really matter to them which way it was. It has two screw posts so is interchangable really.

regards

Hi Simon
Yes, some nice stuff in that frame. The photo is from the H.Y.Usher archives, now broken-up. I managed to acquire some of his documents at auction shortly after his death. Apparently he was an avid Manchester Regt Collector. Regards Jeff

Jeff,

I think he ( Harry Yorke Usher ) was a keen collector of all the Lancashire Regiments but he was an old boy of Manchester Grammar School and served at Gallipoli with the 42nd Division possibly in the Manchesters ? So presumably why he had a keen interest in that regiment.

Hi Simon,
Thanks for showing the 6th VB badges, very nice.
Is your cap badge in one piece?
I have a white metal cap badge, lugged, with South Africa 1901-02 on bottom scroll but not sure if genuine. This scroll and the Manchester 6thVB scroll are attached separately.
Cheers, Tinto

Tinto,

The 6VB cap badge is made of 3 parts fixed together.
Is is very heavily reproduced. Post front and back photos and I will tell you.
If it has a slider, don't bother as they all had loops.

Regards

Tinto,
IMHO its a dud.
There are several ways to tell, I am not going to identify them but have attached a front and rear photo of a genuine one for comparison.

The main difference and I am not giving anything away here, is the quality and finish and detail on the original.

Hi Peter
Thanks for the information. I didn't know that. Gallipoli, my goodness ! He was lucky to come out of there unscathed...or did he ?!
I believe he was also the editor of the famous BCQ at one time.

Simon
Some time ago I was told by Capt. R.A.Bonner that the Manchesters Regimental Museum was compiling a book on their badges...any idea of progress on this ? Regards Jeff
