Default Officers Boss Badges

One area which has recieved little coverage in most book is that of officers boss badges, although as well as the Ghurkas, many infantry regiments ( not only those with with rifle connections ) used such badges.

KLR has found an old article on these, but I wonder how many members have examples in their collections.

I can start off with the 6th Kings ( Liverpool Rifles ) service dress and 2 examples of the Liverpool Irish, both worn during WW1.

Apologies for the quality of the photos ( difficult to get good images of items in frames behind glass) will try and replace them with better pictures in due course.

P.B.

Default Canadian boss badges

I have a couple. The first is to the PPCLI. It's hard to make out, but the scroll above the powder horn reads "Patricia's". The second is attributed to the Regina Rifles, but I expect that similar (or identical) bosses were worn by a number of regiments.

The articles I ‘found’ were by Irwin Mortensen and published in Crown Imperial, there were three parts but there were letters on the subject (mostly corrections) in at least the Dec ’80 edition.

The Cord Boss as a head-dress badge, (March 1980)

More Cord Bosses, (June1980)

… And a few more cord bosses, (June1981)

There was a potted history in the first part, but the rest is basically a list (not all illustrated) of cord boss badges from various collections – mostly his own.

The two images on the left below are A Royal Ulster Rifles KC Boss worn from c. 1922 untill 1948 when it was replaced by a silver plated version of the O/R cap badge design (KK691)

In 1946 officers of the RUR 'officially' wore The cap badge in bronze (OSD) in the cap G.S and the cord boss (illustrated below) in the coloured forage cap. reference OS 7D 29 April 1936 vic 6622/612

AO 54 of 1947 rendered the bronze cap badge obsolete,

The cord boss shown below on the left (with back and fitments) was replaced in 1948 following a petition started by the regiment on April 6th 1946 , the records of which are contained in WO32/12077.

Similiar bosses exist for
The Victorian Busby (a sphinx over bugle) on green (3 from the left, sorry out of focus behind glass)
The Royal Irish Rifles - similiar to below with change in title
The Royal Ulster Rifles - as below but change in crown to QC. (on the right)

I suspect a North Irish Brigade version exists for the buglers of the Royal Ulster Rifles - can anyone confirm same?
