Default Luxembourg Battledress Jacket - Korea

Hello,

I'd just like to show my battledress jacket (1950 pattern) as used im korea.

Mine,

and

and in photo dated 1953

Proving that there is *something* luxembourgeoise related on the market!
If on the ofchance anyone has any pictures of the belgian/lux contingent in Korea, could they share it?
Thanks

I bought it, but I've no reason to doubt its veracity. The seller I bought it from didn't know what it was and it would a pretty obscure thing to take the effort to forge, and even if it is one, it was worth the £25 I paid for it (in england).

Wonderful BD! Is it named? Do you know what is the pocket patch worn by the luxemburger soldier?

Thank you to share with us

Cheers

I did take pictures of the displays when I was up at the Lux museum. I will try and dig them out.

Bonsoir David,

Was it at the Diekirch museum? They have a nice Korea display.

Very interested in the forgotten war, I've been very disappointed by the IWM display. Sad to see an HQ Land Forces Hong Kong patched bush jacket and presented as a first troops deployed in Korea jacket. I'm sure it was possible to find a 40th infantry division shirt. Korea is really an unknown and forgotten war .
Cheers

Forgotten to say that two of these soldiers wear the ultra rare belgium made camo smock, designed and made for the belgium Bn.

Cheers

Valery,
Yes it is. The display is excellent as they have some extremely difficult to get hold of items. Even current insignia worn by the army, police, customs etc is not available to buy anywhere as it is illegal (in Lux).
Well done for getting hold of the the BD.
I'll just keep on searching.
All the best, David

Love that 1953 colour photo -- are there any more like it that you can post? And well done in finding the jacket and posting the pictures.

It ain't a colour photo! I photoshopped it into colour, if I do any others, I'll stick them here.

I'd take what the Diekirch Museum says with a pinch of salt. They have on display a wide range of examples of the wrong types of smock. The correct one is the one pictured or this type:

As regards the pocket badge, this is the photo I took at Diekirch:

and in Brussels:

I have numerous B&W photos of the lux contingent if anyone wants them. Also, if anyone has one of the cap badges (or pocket badge), I'll buy them off you

Hell, I'll put them up anyway!

This is the chap who won the US silver star:

1954?

The O/C 1st Lux contingent Lt. Wagner:

And, OK the below are Belgians, but they're colour pics and I can resist putting them up!

Absolutely first class pics. I (accidently) met some ex-Korean vets
in Dudelange recently when I was driving past the local Armee office and couldn't stop myself from stopping and saying hello and a thank you.
All getting on a bit but still had a presence. It was some sort of re-union.
Unfortunately, 'car boot' sales and 'antique shops' in Lux are nothing olike the ones you lot seem to get.
Shame the museum doesn't sell more pics/cards of what they have rather than the 'tourist' tat that they do.
Keep the pics coming, they are great.
I still haven't even managed to track down a book about the Benelux contribution to the war yet. Here's hoping.
All the best. David

I am so envious!

TBH, most of those pics are 'borrowed' from a lux documentary 'Tour of Duty: Lëtzembuerger am Koreakrich' which is worth buying but costs a bomb! It also works in lux, eng, german & french!

Bookwise; it depends on the language(s) you speak. If you speak French then there are loads, although there are quite a few in dutch and some in english...

- Goodnight Irene (Vers. Nl)
- Belgians Can Do Too! (Vers. Nl)
- Un Saison en Corée de Kamina a Imjin (Vers. Fr & Nl.) The best one in my opinion..
- Béréts Bruns en Corée (1950-53) By Général A. Crahay (series Vécu par des Belges) I only know of Vers. Fr. (definately the cheapest)
- Chronique du Bataillon Belge Corée 1950-55, Hugo Peerlinck, ed. Flyingpencil (Fr,Nl?) env. 34 euros
- Belgians Can Do Too! (Catalogue of Expo at Museum of the Army and Military History) (Fr, Nl, En) 25 euros available only from Brussels' army museum but I'm sure it can be bought over the internet....

You don't happen to know anyone in Diekirch museum do you? They don't even reply to my emails

Ho hum...
