Ebay bidding
Hi 1st off Happy New Year to you all good luck for your collections in the not too distant future!
Not sure if this would be the correct place for this post but hopefully someone will explain this too me? Have placed a bid on some items but this happens (see picture) I took one look at this one and didn't bother in the end as another was the same and each time all that happened was I was outbid remotely! So is this just one bidder mine comes up with something which identifys me but with these bids am unsure if it is being bid on or being pushed up by the individual? (Though I do have dealings with this deale and trust that this isn't the case, but the doubt is there???) So putmy mind at ease please how is it I am visible but this one isn't? All the best billy |

Hi billy,
You can see your own ID when logged into your eBay account. If you log off eBay and then view the listing you should not be able to see your ID. Hope this helps. Cheers, Ian. |

Hi Billy
It doesn't look dodgy to me, there were 7 bidders but its difficult to see which of the seven put which bids on when its Private. Does £74.68 seem like a fair price?, I wouldn't have paid that much but its not really my sort of thing. Rob http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI...&showauto=true |

This is why am asking in the past you can see identities on the bidding list! This did go for a lot and too much and not my area! Still he made a decent amount out of it and I like what this dealer acqires!
Thanks all for your help! Billy |

Due to problems, i.e. bad blood between some bidders it is now eBay's policy not to show bidders ID......
The bids will show as Private or as a Number/Letter.......Number/Letter..... The only person who can see the names of all the bidders is the seller...... Mike

which means you must be aware of a rather common practice that a seller with 'private listings' may bid you up in small steps using one of his other ebay accounts.

An old thread, but fits.... bidding on three separate items from same seller.
Suddenly lots of bids on each item from someone who has 0 -zero - purchases from eBay. Do I need to be suspicious? And/or stop bidding? |

Yes that sounds suspicious to me.

Thank you. I dropped out on two of them. One of these was pushed to an absurd price for what it was by the mysterious "0" bidder chasing up bids. And a supposedly "reputable" seller too (I know it is not on to name names, so won't).

If I start bidding on an item and a 'Private' bidder starts to compete I drop out straightaway as it raises my suspicions that I maybe being scammed in some way.
