Default Canadian Scouts

Hello Chaps,

I'm not sure if this will be of interest but I thought I would share a new addition to my Boer War collection. The badge is Canadian Scouts and I believe these are quite rare (but stand to be corrected). Not a unit that is mentioned often and I couldn't find any threads on the forum either, so thought it worth posting.

Despite the name, I understand these were a South African unit raising in 1900/1.

Comments always welcome.

Cheerio,

Roy

Image of the reverse please Roy.
Many of these titles were made in the field or by unit artificers. Being scouts, they would have had access to blacksmith / farrier / artificers.

Thanks Roy. It looks like it may have been cast?

Hi Bill,

That hadn't crossed my mind. I'm not really sure looking at it closely. With it being so thin, I had assumed it was just cut brass. Here are a few more pics and let me know what you think?

Cheers,

Roy

With the burr on the reverse of the title and the striations on the side, I am leaning toward a cutout process.

Thank you Bill,

I thought this has the 'feel' of a cut out pice. I like this title, it's one of those that just spoke to me. And with the added bonus of I was able to trade for it, so no money out of pocket, always the best way..

Cheers,

Roy

Hi Simon,

The Black Watch and Shako plates are gone (well almost).

I'm still focused on my home county of Shropshire. And also Militia Buttons.

New project of Boer War badges

See my Black Watch trade album.

Cheers,

Roy

Good Morning Roy......

The are a lot of threads on ABW Forum with regards to the Canadian Scouts if you wish to look......

One of the most famous members was Lord Trenchard (Founder of the RAF).....

What you have looks like a Brass version of the shoulder badge, the Cap / Slouch Hat badge is a C. over S. ..... I have been collecting Canadian Scouts for over 25 years and I have only ever seen them in Photos......

There is a Regimental History book called "Knowing No Fear".......

Attached is a photo of a common Brass on the right and a rarer Chrome on the left......

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thank you for that. Some wonderful photos and details, so pleased you shared these. I will be sure to check out the threads.

These more obscure and lesser known units are really quite fascinating.

Cheers,

Roy
