Default London Cyclists.

This badge has just finished on eBay- 280998197065
Looks better than my one from Bosleys some years ago. Any thoughts?
Regards, Paul.

Paul,
IMO close but not close enough! This badge lacks the finer detail, so not quite a bargain, more of an expensive gap filler! Hope it was not your winning bid?

Andy

Hello Andy. The main differance to me is how the slider is possitioned. The more I compare it to yours though the more similarities I see. I must hope it looks sharper in the flesh then the pictures as yes, I have bought it. If the doubts grow about it in my mind though this could well be the badge that ends my interest as regards buying badges. Cyclist badges are becoming a Jinks for me- I bought a 25th London badge recently with a lead solder replaced slider. After having it for a day I managed to lose it and fear it may have some how gone out with the rubish! Regards, Paul.

I was watching this badge... I thought it looked okay, to be honest.

Peter.

I would say Andy's is a lot sharper to the rear.

Paul,
this hobby is trial and error, don't be put off as this is only my opinion, but although the images on this listing are not the best, the following areas are a worry to me;

The font - It's all over the place.
The spokes are too thick
The pearls to the arms of the crown
The lack of seeding to the base scroll
The Rifle barrels and Fore sights
The poor reverse detail
The detail to the shield/City crest..

I'd be more than happy to send you some High Res images to compare against when your badge arrives.

Best regards

Andy

Andy, I cannot help noticing that your badge looks as though the spoke at "6 O'clock" does not touch the outer rim of the wheel, is this an optical illusion or just a bad strike.

Rob,
it does touch, it is a combination of metal polish residue and flare glare!

Best regards

Andy

The auction site photograph isn't a great quality in which a valid comparison can be made between it and Andy's sample. Due to the background colour difference, the spokes look thicker on the questioned example but it looks like that is due to shadows. The resolution prevents a good comparison with the crown jewels and other details. So if you won it. I would say keep hold of it and show it to as many knowledgeable people as you can, but in the end, you have the casting vote.

One thing I did notice Andy is some copper salt (copper carbonate) on your scroll near the letter 'N'. Nip that in the bud before it spreads.

Cheers,

Garry
